About The Role

Area Manager – Central London

Salary: £35,000–£39,000 per annum + Company Van

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced Area Manager to oversee the delivery of cleaning and soft facilities management services across a dedicated health and fitness account in Central London, covering 20+ sites.

This is a hands-on, field-based role where you will be responsible for maintaining high service standards, supporting site teams and building strong client relationships across a busy, multi-site operation.

As the account operates seven days a week, flexibility is essential. The role will involve regular weekend working and occasional six-day working weeks to support the needs of the operation. You will need to be comfortable managing a varied schedule and travelling between sites to ensure consistent service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of cleaning services across multiple sites, ensuring contractual requirements and service standards are consistently met.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the client, acting as a key point of contact for operational matters.
  • Carry out regular site visits and audits to monitor standards, identify areas for improvement and ensure agreed actions are completed.
  • Lead, support and motivate cleaning teams, ensuring they have the guidance, resources and support needed to deliver a high-quality service.
  • Monitor site performance, attendance and service delivery, addressing any issues promptly and in line with company procedures.
  • Manage staffing and resource requirements across the area, working with Recruitment and Operations to support service continuity.
  • Provide operational cover across a seven-day account, including regular weekend working and occasional six-day working weeks, ensuring sites remain fully supported.
  • Monitor KPIs, SLAs and operational budgets, taking appropriate action where performance or costs fall below expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and overall service delivery.
  • Respond to client concerns and operational issues, ensuring these are resolved professionally and within agreed timescales.
  • Develop and implement improvement plans where standards or performance need to be addressed.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety, environmental, sustainability and quality standards.
  • Work closely with Recruitment, HR, QSHE and other support teams to resolve issues and improve operational performance.
  • Support the training, development and induction of colleagues, helping teams understand their responsibilities and deliver to the required standards.
  • Support account retention and identify opportunities to improve the service provided to the client.
  • Complete operational reporting and communicate performance, challenges and actions to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Promote SBFM's values and maintain a professional, positive approach across all sites.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience in an operational management role within facilities management, contract cleaning, hospitality or another service-led environment.
  • Experience managing multiple sites and supporting teams across a geographically spread area.
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills, with the ability to manage expectations and resolve issues effectively.
  • Commercial awareness, including an understanding of budgets, cost control and productivity.
  • Experience monitoring performance against KPIs, SLAs or other service standards.
  • The ability to lead, motivate and support teams to achieve consistent results.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
  • Good communication and reporting skills, with confidence engaging with colleagues at all levels.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
  • A proactive, flexible and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to adapt to changing operational demands.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and occasional six-day weeks in line with the needs of a seven-day operation.
  • IOSH Managing Safely, or a willingness to work towards this qualification, would be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential due to the travel involved between sites.

What We Offer

  • Salary of £35,000–£39,000 per annum.
  • Company van.
  • 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Internal mentoring and development opportunities.
  • Regular company events.
  • Training and opportunities to develop your career within a growing business.
